$7 Billion Bonanza: The new FCC Broadband Connectivity Fund

Here’s big news from the Federal Communications Commission. The FCC recently approved a new $7.17 billion Emergency Connectivity Fund Program.

More than 1,000,000 have already signed up for government’s new $50 per month internet discount

The government’s new Emergency Broadband program is a big hit. Maybe even a huge hit. The Federal Communications Commission says that more than one million people have already enrolled in the program since it was introduced back in mid-May.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, no Lifeline Broadband to no Lifeline Broadband. The Federal Communications Commission has killed the Lifeline Broadband plan it spent years developing — before it actually got off the ground.

Some Facts

#1 The Lifeline Assistance program started in Tennessee in mid-2008 and is now available in 49 states, DC and Puerto Rico.

#2 You qualify for a phone simply by accepting other government assistance -- Medicaid, food stamps, SSI, National School Lunch, Section 8 Housing, Home Energy assistance and others.

#3 The FCC is currently wrapping up a large pilot program that's testing ways to expand the ObamaPhone program to include broadband internet access.
